I first just want to say hello to all of those waiting to take their vows in California.
My husband and I are ordained ministers who officiate religious, non-religious, traditional and very untraditional weddings and events.
Since California begins allowing same sex marriages next week, we are working with couples that will be getting married on the courthouse steps. We're so excited to be doing this.
We also have some dates set for some larger events and for some reason those don't scare me as much. LOL
Here's my dilemma.
You can read just so much in a book, or on a website and I really haven't found enough material to make sure our ceremonies are perfect.
I've always worked with couples to find just the right words and I'm afraid of being politically incorrect when it comes to same sex weddings and vows and I was wondering if any of you could give me some feedback about your likes and dislikes towards whatever types of ceremonies are are looking for. If a couple askes for help I want to be able to provide some intelligent input.
I don't want to look silly, so please help me.
I've worked with weddings most of my life.
I started by working for 15 years at the Claremont Hotel in the Oakland Berkeley Hills. I did catering on the side and wedding planning, but after raising most of my children I thought becoming a minister and actually joining couples together would be so much more rewarding. It is. Not in the monetary since by any means, but you just feel like you are a part of the union and there's no better feeling.
So, now I would like to be able to offer appropriate services to those who can finally join together legally and spiritually and I want to do it correctly.
I'd really appreciate any and all ideas and comments.
Just remember that there are those of us out there who are more than willing to help you no matter what our differences are. I hope no one encounters any problems along the way with those who don't feel like we do.
Good luck to all of you new Brides and Grooms. We hope you have long and happy marriages.
And please.....Give me some feedback. Help a rookie. I really need it. LOL
