Wedding Crasher |
A few months ago I photographed my first same sex wedding. The couple felt they needed to email me first to see if I would be comfortable photographing a same sex wedding. It made me sad for them and their difficulties at this happy time, and angry at the world for being so closed minded. However I believe that they saved themselves a headache as they didn't visit any of the first few photographers they contacted due to their reactions.
I am disgusted that someone who considers themself a professional photographer cannot see the love in a couple. This is our job - a fantastic job. So here I am to see: 1.-how I can do something to change society in Australia even if only in a small way and 2.-how to make it easier for couples to feel they can approach me. Obviously I will put up the photos as samples on my website soon but does anyone have any other suggestions? Here is a sneak peak at the pics in case you are interested. ![]() |

I don't know that you need to do more than have sample pictures up featuring a same-sex couple. I know that we strongly considered one photographer because the samples on her site included a lesbian couple. The one we ended up choosing has told us that he is particularly excited about doing our wedding, because he would like to use our photos as samples on his site to indicate his willingness to cover such weddings.
Beyond that, same-sex couples are looking for pretty much the same things opposite-sex couples are--someone who has good photos, and a reputation for being on-time and unobtrusive. |

Thanks for your input. I have finally put up the shots in my gallery!
They are about 3/4 way down the index strip on the side of the page. The photos are on a beach. www.lkphotography.com.au/weddings/index.html |
