I highly recommend the following:
The anti-bride guide: The rules and how to bend them. it has great information for how things "should" be done, and also info / ideas on how to tailor it to your own personal style. I found it was perfect for me - i can know "how" it should all be done, and then also, how to step outside of the box when I wanted to. And it wasn't completely "how to plan a gay wedding", but was one of the only books i found that included information regarding all kinds of weddings / ceremonies. civil unions, gay marriage, all of it. Very inclusive, not exclusive in any direction. Also by the same peeps: The anti-bride: tying the knot outside of the box. and they make a wedding planner as well: Anti-Bride Wedding Planner: Hip Tools and Tips for Getting Hitched I do buy bridal magazines, and have a few traditional books as well, and found that much of the information (how to best find a dress to suit my body style, checklists and timelines) were great. but some of it...just wasn't for me or the kind of wedding K and I are planning. So the antibride advice was GREAT! -Rachel |

I just got the Anti-Bride Planner to use for our ceremony. There is just enough info in the planner to keep my fuzzy brain from forgetting things (like that parking has to be planned) without so much that it's just a pain to keep with me.
And it's cute |

I wish we had bought the "The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Weddings" before we started planning our wedding. (we got it once we were well on our way) A very funny book and has lots of good tips.

We used the same book Bridezilla did. It's a little bit dated in occasional passages, but for the most part it's amazingly relevant and covers all the major issues specific to a gay wedding. It's also a really good read. I do recommend supplementing it with a traditional wedding planning book or theknot.com to get more comprehensive checklists of every detail of the planning process, at least if you're going the more traditional route. But the Essential Guide to Lesbian/Gay Weddings is a really the best place to start when you're working out the big questions about your wedding. |
