Matty wondered what family & friends might think about attending a ceremony on New Year's Eve. Seems like some folks might be psyched and some might find it to be tough. This is probably true for other holidays as well, I assume.

What do you think?!?

Question:
Do you think wedding guests would be more relieved to attend a wedding scheduled on a holiday or duing a holiday weekend than at another time?

Choices:
Yes
No
It Depends

Question:
Which holiday would be the most fun for a wedding celebration?

Choices:
New Year's Eve
Memorial Day
Labor Day
Valentine's Day
Halloween
Fourth of July
Columbus Day Weekend
Other

That's really interesting- New Year's and Halloween, hm? I had to vote for Labor Day- it's our wedding weekend! It may not be a big holiday, but it's the only long-weekend in September (a beautiful month in Mass), and it'll save our out-of-towners a vacation day at work. The major factor for me as an out-of-town guest would be how much time off of work I'd have to take, so holidays that make for 3 or 4 day weekends are great times for a wedding!

One thing against a holiday weekend, even though folks have an extra day off, often it is hard to get another day off due to scheduling conflicts with coworkers. Also, it can be more expensive to travel on a holiday weekend, and a lot more hassle to be on the road / in the air with everyone else who has a day off and is going somewhere...

We thought about a holiday wedding weekend (columbus day - also beautiful in western mass) - but because it is a destination wedding, we decided it'd be better / easier for folks to lose a day (or two) of work on a different weekend in order to get there and enjoy themselves. Also, a year ahead of time Columbus day weekend was already scheduled for many of our friends!

One downside to holiday weddings... vendors and venues tend to book these a long time in advance. Memorial Day weekend has been the most popular day for me here in Atlanta and books well over a year in advance.

If you plan to use a hotel for your reception site, you may be competing with corporate parties and events from Nov. to Jan. 1st.

And because holiday weekends typically book so quickly, you are much less likely to get a discount on their services as well.

We are having our wedding on Saturday June 28, 2008, which is our Canada Day long weekend (like Your Fourth of July holiday).

We have had minimal trouble with booking vendors. While looking for an outdoor tent, we had one company told us that they supply several cities with tents for the Canada Day Celebrations and had none available, however, they were quick to give us a name of another company, and it turned out, the rental came to a few hundred dollars UNDER budget (BONUS!). Cool

Long weekends are great for out of town guests. My family and a lot of close friends live far away, and gives them time to come out and the time to actually visit.

My sweetie and I can't take much time off from our company, so we are going to have a mini-honeymoon vacation during the long weekend, and will be taking a longer trip at Christmas Time when we can take more time off. Smiler

Weddings in Cyprus

Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum so if I ask questions that have been answered a million times before please bear with me!!

Anyway, my Fiance and I are planning on getting married in Cyprus in 2012. We have booked with Aphrodite Weddings and so far they have been excellent. We are planning on having the ceremony in Ayios Elias gardens but have no idea about where to hold our reception.

The guest list won't be huge, at the minute we have an estimate of around 15 and the ideal venue will be cosy with preferrably English style food as we are all plain eaters!

Any ideas or recommended venues that anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
