Well, my fiance and I still have time to plan, considering the date's been set at March 13, 2009, but...where do we begin?
We're planning on two weddings, one in 2009 where I'm the bride then the second in 2010 when she'll be the bride. So, lucky me, I'm first, but at a real loss! I have no idea how to shop for gowns, how to do wedding shopping at all, I don't even know what's right and wrong when planning. I've read about people reading different planning books, but seriously, I can't follow written directions to save my life. Plus, and this is the real kick in the butt, we live in Utah! We'd have to travel who knows where to actually have the ceremony, and all her family lives here and all mine lives in California. Help, please! |

You do have a lot of time to plan! BTW, I love the reference point of your planning being 0.0.
You can consider calling us for an introductory planning session, which might help... http://shop.gayweddings.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=35 But, I really recommend that you spend at least 6 months just talking about what you envision. You've got plenty of time for the other details. |

Congratulations on your engagement and good luck with your wedding plans.
I am curious about something though...why will you have 2 weddings? Sorry if I am being dumb... |

Congrats on your engagement and yes you have so much time to plan. Talking about what you want is definately essential as both of you will have ideas already about your dream wedding. I suggest writing it all out and then finding ways to incorporate what you both want into one event. Its difficult at first but it can be done.
We bought the guide to gay and lesbian weddings which I not only read, but highlighted half the book. It set us off in the right direction and once we had a roadmap so to speak of the things we needed to get done we just took off with it. Good luck with everything. |

Thanks all for the congrats, for starters.
Mel and I have actually gotten a lot accomplished, and I really have to say it was due all to research, research and more research! Books are absolutely wonderful tools. We've got just over a year left, but we're not worrying. We've got the church and reception site already picked out, colors are picked, invites and save the date cards are picked, cake's being handled by my sister, who is a pro baker. Really all we have left are the gowns! Everything, even the rings, are picked out and firmly decided on. To answer Sam and Lyly, we were gonna do the two ceremonies because we couldn't decide on just one. We knew our parents wanted a more traditional ceremony, but we want something fun and more our style. In the end, we decided it's our wedding and we're going for that anime theme 100%! |
