Question:
Hey, everyone --

Someone just asked me what I had heard about bachelor/bachelorette parties for lesbian brides and gay grooms. Can't say I've heard too much about them, but I know there are some folks with a partyin' spirit and creative inspiration out there!

Let us know if you've been to one, been a guest of honor, or have any great stories to share!

Choices:
Yes
No
That's not really what I'd call it...

My bridesmaids threw a couple's shower for us which had a roses and lavender theme because we were in the process of re-doing our garden. The guest gave us all kinds of different garden supplies and seeds as well as live plants and flowers for planting. It was lovely.

Gina's friends also threw her a bachelorette party, which was basically just a gorgeous dinner with nice wines, but the big surprise was they pitched in to fly her best friend out from London!!! We really enjoyed our pre-wedding parties. It was nice for everyone to have a chance to connect before the big day!

I think it's best to look at the guest list first and then think about what the themes are that have brought that particular crowd of people together over the years.

Most people end up doing something which is a celebration of their closest friendships. Depending on your shared interests it could be a spa day, a sexy cocktail party or some kind of a sports theme. Look to what you do for fun with friends on other occasions and it will probably give you some good ideas!

Haven't been at one properly, no. We did have a co-ed, all-our-friends party thrown by friends following the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. It was a really great way to destress and unwind... we played games and generally just enjoyed hanging out with our far-flung guests.

My sister (and friends, too, I think) will be having a bachelorette party for us a couple of days before our wedding. Having recently attended my (straight) friend's bachelorette, complete with giant penis-cake (think light flesh colored frosting and chocolate sprinkles for hair) and absolutely ridiculous games (think the "Memory" game with pictures of sexual positions and parading down the city streets screaming "Going to the Chapel" and other embarrassing things)... I'm a little afraid. We're having a pretty classy evening wedding, though, so I guess one night of crass won't hurt. As for "fun for gay and straight", I'm not too worried about that- I was one of several lesbians putting up with all the penis-talk at my friend's party last weekend- I wouldn't be too surprised if my straight-girl-friends were the ones designing a pin-the-boobs-on-the-bride game just for me!

We are pretty conservative, and certainly didn't want anything crazy. We live in FL and are getting married in NJ. Normally when I visit up there, I pick up my Grandpa and take him to Atlantic City for the day. So we decided to invite my brother along, and call that our "bachelor party."

Yep. The gay bachelorette party I attended was not unlike the straight bachelorette parties I've been to. They hired a strip-o-gram, had a sex toy party and went out bar hopping.

It was tons of fun!

My partner and I had one together (we are a lesbian couple). We sort of planned it ourselves with the help of my sister. We rented a party bus and went bar hopping. It was fun. My sister bought some typical bachelorette party favors and she found these really cute shirts that said "Broom" and the other one said "Gride." we wore them all night. I came across the website recently it is www.broomandgride.com
