Hello!

My partner and I hired a lawyer last year to draft our domestic partnership documents. We live in Arizona, where there are no automatic legal protections for us as a couple, so it was very important for us to do whatever we could to make sure we'd each be protected should one of us become seriously hurt or pass away. The package our lawyer prepared for us cost about $1,000 and included items such as our wills, medical and financial power of attorney, a domestic partnership agreement and real estate deeds. We have been shocked to learn that many of our GLBT friends who are in long term committed relationships have not "gotten around" to drafting their paperwork. Many of them didn't really have a reason as to why. So, I'd like to explore this topic a little further...please see the poll below!

Question:
Have you and your partner hired a lawyer to draft Domestic Partnership or other legal documents to protect you? Why or why not?

Choices:
Absolutely!
No, we don't think it's necessary
We realize it's important, but it's too expensive
We'd like to, but have no idea where to start
