Anyone else planning a fall wedding in 2006?

If so - is planning a wedding for the fall affecting any of your decisions (decoration, food etc..) and if so, how?

What made you decide to have a fall wedding?

Our wedding is Labor Day weekend, which is not actually fall, yet, but is very much associated with its beginning. One reason we chose red as the major color for our wedding was the season. Also, we wanted to add strong colors to our attire, rather than go with traditional dress. I have a bridal gown with red elements, and J will wear a solid red gown. In order to use fresh herbs and flowers, we'll be using the ones that are naturally in season, too (except maybe roses). We both love fall and love September!

My fiance and I are planning a wedding on October 7th. We are wanting something very intimate and small...with just our dearest and closest friends and family. We have a beautiful backyard. We are planning an evening wedding with plenty of romantic twinkle lights. We still aren't sure what to wear though...that's been our biggest stumbling block so far. Any ideas?

This is lovely! There are some AMAZING all-red wedding gowns that were out two or three years ago, and I'm sure the trend hasn't fizzled since they were really popular. Something to look into, if your fiancee wants the non-traditional color paired with a traditional bridal-gown cut.

You might try bridesmaid dresses in white or ivory if you're looking for something more casual, and pair with veils for a distinctly bridal look. Watters & Watters has some really nice ones, as well as an informal brides line.

However, a lot of wedding dress designers have more pared-down, sleek/elegant rather than fussy/frilly dresses out now... the sort of thing suitable for wearing on a beach. So I wouldn't immediately discount bridal designers just because you don't want a super-formal wedding dress with a cathedral train.

So you might start by going to an upscale gown shop and telling them that you're looking for something for a casual, romantic backyard wedding, and seeing what they come up with. Even if you don't want to BUY an upscale gown shop dress, this is probably a best way to get a tour of what's on the market, and then after that you can try going more budget-friendly routes. Smiler

I've also seen some lovely J.Crew dresses in white used as wedding dresses for informal outdoor weddings, too.

Of course, no one is making you wear a dress at all, and there are bazillions of nontraditional dress options out there. But from your description of your plan for a beautiful backyard and an intimate wedding, that's what immediately came to mind.

Holly and I are getting married on November 12th on the Beach in Florida. We decided on November 12th because that is the closest date to our anniversary. Our colors will be Chocolate and Baby Blue. The girls in our wedding party will be wearing khaki pants with a baby blue button up and a choc colored camisole underneath. The boys will be wearing khaki pants and a chocolate colored button up, long sleeve. Holly and I will be the only two in white. Since we are on the beach, I wanted to keep it simple. My only worries with a Fall wedding in Florida is the possibility of a Hurricane. I'm hoping that won't happen since November is the last month of Hurricane season. The good thing about having a wedding on the beach in November is that it is off-season so the prices are lower than usual.

Trish and I were planning for October 27th, 2007 and we found that if we wait one week and have it in November we can save thousands of dollars! Since it's a New England wedding our chance of the weather changing is really the same 50-50 shot either way!
The only problem we've run into is actually where to Honeymoon, every where seems to see out of season in the fall, I guess that's why everyone comes to New England. It's hard because we don't want to go sit on a beach we want to go somewhere with a lot of culture and sightseeing - any suggestions?

In reply to NotYetMarried, J and I are getting married in Northampton, Mass. Things are starting to shape up more, now, as we're only a little over two months away. Red and ivory being the major colors (with my bridal gown with red accents and J's solid red gown), my flowers will be red roses with a fall-mix, and J's will be white roses with the same. Our sisters (bridesmaids) are wearing classy, black dresses. Black stays in the darker fall colors, while differentiating us from Christmas (we've got lots of green because I love ivy) and Valentine's (with all the ivory and a little pink in my dress and flowers), fits in perfectly with the jazz-style evening reception we have planned, and gives the girls something they will definitely like and be able to wear again. They each chose their own dress from the same designer so they can match but keep their personal style.
Mindy and Tricia, have you considered getting a passport (newly required for Canada) and going to Montreal or Toronto? A friend of mine also reccommended Quebec City as a romantic place with a lot of history and beauty.

K and I found the same thing at the place we chose for this October - it was a huge difference between October and November in prices, for almost everything. We asked about getting the lower prices November prices but still having the event in October (since it was in mid-october), and the vendor agreed! It has surprised me what we can get because we have asked!
