Wedding Crasher |
Hi guys-
I'd like to ask my man the big question... I'm just wondering about how to do it? How have others done it? I've read some pretty sweet lesbian proposals on this site, but I'd like to hear from some other guys too...I might get a ring, but neither of us are impressed with expensive gifts, so see what eBay brings me... he knows I love more than any ring would ever show, anyway! Thanks buds- -Thomas |

Fiance / Fiancee |
Hi Thomas
I was originally thinking of romantic/creative ways to propose as well, but things kind of unfolded in an unexpected way: I was driving from FL to NJ to deliver a car for a friend back in October. While driving, I was on the phone with my sister telling her that I intended to propose between then and the end of the year, but wasn't sure if it would seem too soon to him. My Brian beeped in with call waiting and said, "When you get back, we need to talk about things..." I asked what he meant, and he said, "You know, ceremonies and rings and stuff." lol. I thought DAMN, he beat me to it! He picked me up at the airport the next evening, and went to his apt to start dinner, while I went home to feed my kitty. In a rush, I went shopping and bought a few things: 1. a wooden box (will get back to that in a minute) 2. very inexpensive but symbolic rings from Target (they are stainless steel - his last name is Steele; and they have religious crosses built into the design, which is important to both of us.) 3. a fancy schmancy gift bag. I went back to his apt with the gift bag, with the wooden box on top. To explain: he had been talking about saving up for a house. I went to T.J. Maxx and found a round wooden box (like a hat box almost) which reads: "Home Sweet Home" on the lid. I told him this was to be our savings for a down payment. Instead of spending money on each other on flowers, expensive dinners, other gifts, etc. (which we love to do) we'll take that money and put it into the Home Sweet Home box, with a sticky note on the money saying what would have been purchased - that way the intent is still there. So for example, I started it off with a $20 bill and a sticky reading: "One dozen white roses for Brian, 11-12-06." He loved it, and as he opened it on the sofa and I explained it to him, I positioned myself in front of him. Then I told him I thought there might be something else in the bottom of the bag. He reached in and pulled out a rolled piece of tissue with a ring on each end. I did the traditional one knee thing and proposed. When we first met, I told him I didn't want a boyfriend - this later became a joke between us and our friends. When I proposed, I reminded him that I didn't want a boyfriend - I wanted him to be my husband. Not nearly as creative has I had originally envisioned, but it worked. Tony |
