I don't even know if this topic is in the right place, but I'm not sure where else it would go.

Okay, anyway, my question is pretty simple. Many people tell me that the best metal for the wedding ring is platinum, because it lasts so long. I have to be honest, platinum is waaay too expensive and feels, well, cold. Mel doesn't like yellow gold, and we've yet to find anything in white gold with the setting we want. So, does anyone know what else a sturdy wedding ring could be made out of? I've found the jewelers in my area don't like answering questions and I'm too impatient to wait for the next time I'm going to visit my folks in California to go ring shopping there.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We found an outstanding source on line. The jewelry stores in our area were very overpriced and had very little to choose from. I stumbled across jewelryvortex.com which had a relatively huge selection of wedding bands. We compared the thickness and weight of the rings there with the one we liked best in town, and ended up getting a thicker, heavier ring (with a much nicer design) for $100 less per ring. (paid total $450 for two 14K mens bands, size 10.) They just arrived two days ago and we are really happy with them. They also do free engraving BUT: you cannot return them if you get them engraved, so we opted not to, just in case. We'll get them engraved locally.

Have you tried ebay? I found my partner's engagement ring there-

They have thousands of choices, all at pretty darn good prices. As far as metals are concerned, your least expensive option is going to be titanium, which is exceptionally strong and a pretty neat option.

I just found my wedding band on Overstock. Hopefully that helps?
