I remember the first time I began lurking on a chat board / community site. It seemed to strange to be listening on other people's conversations and trying to decipher all of the abbrevations. It didn't take long, though, to understand the value of learning from others and sharing a few of my own comments as well.

I'm still a little old-fashioned -- I generally type using proper grammar, capital letters (as appropriate), and full words -- but I'm getting the hang of it.
